In 2005, I designed jewelry for Anne Holton for the Inaugural Ball on the occasion of her husband, Tim Kaine, becoming the Governor of Virginia.

These pieces were inspired by my experience as a native Virginian both in design and material. I combined shimmery sterling silver, bearing markings reminiscent of early Virginia silversmiths, with the hammered copper and pearls favored by Native Americans.

Though strikingly dissimilar, each culture's tradition with these materials revealed pride in skill, appearance and one's status.
